If you have decided that yes, I would love my family tree hanging on my wall, but you are not sure how it works or what is involved. This article will explain everything to you, but if your question isn’t answered please do drop us an email and I will personally answer it for you.
First thing’s first
Measure the space you would like your family tree to fill. With these dimensions we can ensure that it will fit your space and also advise you if a better product will suit.
I have got my dimensions - so what‘s next?
The next thing to do would be to decide who you want on your family tree and how far you want to go back.
If you only want to go back a generation or two then that should be reasonably simple, but if you want to go back further, some research may be required. List the details down as you will need them later to fill in our form.
Knowing how many people you want listed in this tree will help you to know how many panels you require and therefore size and cost of your family tree.
If you are choosing a design with pictures included, it would be a good idea to start a folder in which to put one picture of each person into the folder with a clearly labelled name e.g Sarah Jane Smith. If there are more than one person with the same name (as there are in my family) simply label these up with the birth date afterwards. This way we will be able to identify which person comes in which order.
What sort of picture is best?
Head and shoulders will be the best. If they are too small in the photo provided, when enlarging for your wall art they can become blurred and loose quality. I appreciate this is not always possible, so please send us what you have and we will do our best for you.
My pictures are photos, not digital, what should I do?
The best way would be to scan the photos, name the files as above. If you do not have a scanner, you could try taking a photo using your mobile device. When using a mobile device please take the photo flat on to the image (and not at an angle).
What file and size should my pictures be?
The ideal size would be a minimum of 15cm wide at 300dpi.
You are now ready to buy your bespoke family tree wall art!
After completing the previous steps, you are now ready to purchase your bespoke family tree wall art. You can do this in two ways.
Go to the website, pick the design you require and follow the instructions through to completion. After we have received your order we will be in touch.
You can contact us directly via email at firstname.lastname@example.org for your own bespoke quote. This is ideal for orders that exceed the design, panel size or dimensions listed on the website, or if you want a completely bespoke design creating. We will send you your individual quote, which if accepted, we will then send you an invoice for payment in full. As we work only in unique and bespoke designs, we require payment in full.
Once we receive your order we will send you a word template which you can input your family tree details. There are clear instructions and guides on how to fill in the form, but in all honesty it is very clear and self explanatory.
When you are ready, send the form back to us with the images you would like us to use. If all the files are too big to go over email, please contact me and I will arrange for a secure Dropbox link to be sent to you so you can upload everything into there. Only you and I will have access to this folder And it will be deleted after your order is completed.
Time for design
After I have received the template file (and images if required) I will start to create your wall art. This can take up to 10 working days depending on complexity, but you can keep in touch with me throughout. If I have any concerns or issues I will be in touch via email to discuss options if required.
Proofing your design
Once the design has been created, I will send an electronic proof via email for you to look at.
What should I check when proofing?
There are 3 things to check.
- Is everyone in the right place in the family tree?
- Are the spellings right? Check all spellings.
- If pictures are used, are you happy with them?
- Overall look of the wall art, are you happy?
- Are the dimensions right? Will it definitely fit your space
There are mistakes, concerns, issues - what should I do?
Mistakes can happen, which is why we send proofs out to our clients. If you spot one, or many, list them in an email (or use sticky-notes on the pdf if you are confident to do so) and send them back to me. I will amend these and send you a new proof.
The proof is perfect - what next?
Once you approve the electronic proof, no further amendments can be made because your bespoke family tree wall art will be sent to print.
Multiple quality checks are made throughout the process. Once we are happy we will then carefully wrap up your bespoke family tree wall art ready for delivery.
We use courier services in the main. These can vary but we will be in touch to inform you which company will be delivering it and when.
How long does it take from sign off to receipt?
It depends on size, complexity and design, but we generally ask clients to allow a maximum of 10 working days. If it will be longer than that I will let you know.
I am always here for support and to answer any questions. Just email me with your worry and I will get back to you as soon as possible. Please bare in mind that if you email on a weekend you may not get an answer until the next working day, but I do try to reply within 2 hours t he rest of the time.
