It sounds obvious, but you would be surprised on how many people just get some paint from the garage and chuck it on the walls. No thought to how it makes you feel, or the atmosphere it creates. Creating a space which evokes a positive mood, that shuts off distraction and noise is important for any home.

Create a working atmosphere that inspires you. Think about it, if you have blank magnolia walls will that create an environment in which you want to spend several hours every day? No. Creating a space in which you can focus, work and be inspired is very important. So the simple question is, what inspires you?
Quotes? Images? Colours? Mood boards? Sayings? Places? Your story? Family? Places?
Choose the topic that gives you the most positive feeling and add it to the room. Creating an environment in which you want to spend time is the key to positive working.

Think About Colour
Every colour triggers a different mood, whether you realise it or not. Below is a very brief summary outlining how each colour makes us feel.
Blue: A calming colour that can make you feel centred, relaxed and serene. It is known to help lower blood pressure, clear the mind and help steady a person’s breathing. Be careful as pastel blues can come across as cold. Light, warm blues are great and are easily balanced with warm hues and furnishing.
Yellow: Brightens your mood and increases your energy. Yellow can catch the sunlight and leave you with an uplifting feeling of joy.
White: Not necessarily an energy nor calm inducing colour, white gives a happy medium that leaves you feeling clean. White rooms give an automatic feel of cleanliness and purity. The colour white itself stands for protection, innocence and goodness.
Green: This is a great colour for a home office as it symbolises prosperity and helps to reduce anxiety. It is one of the most restful colours for your eyes and is known to be restorative, mind-clearing and encourages composure. It can also creates an outdoorsy, natural feel if mixed with plenty of plants and matching decoration.
Purple: A rich and dramatic colour that creates a romantic, mysterious and luxurious vibe and is great for sparking creativity. Paler colours such as lavender and lilac are calming and light.
Orange: An exciting colour that brings bursts of energy and enthusiasm. It’s a great colour to exercise around, but not so good for rooms in which we need to calm down and focus.
Red: Bold and intense, red is known to raise blood pressure, heartbeat and cause irritability, but it is a great colour to use for rooms where you plan to socialise.
Pink: Pink can have a calming effect on the nerves and helps relieve feelings of anger, aggression and neglect. It is said that the longer that you are exposed to pink the calmer you become.

Close your eyes and think of a place where you felt totally relaxed and happy. A place that makes you smile. Picture the colours, the surroundings and plants that bring back those feelings.
